Whether you are looking for candy for your child’s class or just to share at home, there are lots of\u00a0store bought\u00a0gluten free options available.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Some of our favorites include:<\/p>\n
Where possible, I have linked the candy to its\u00a0manufacture’s website\u00a0that provides information about the gluten free status of that item,\u00a0 the company’s gluten free options or their general allergen statement.<\/p>\n
We have also found that other parents, teachers or co-workers really are willing to help accommodate those with\u00a0allergies if you provide them with the\u00a0request at least a few days\u00a0ahead of time and try to include specific\u00a0gluten free\u00a0options that\u00a0are\u00a0readily available\u00a0at most stores.\u00a0\u00a0 In the past, we were shy about asking.\u00a0\u00a0I think this was\u00a0partly out of concern that this was a burden or inconvenience to others, but partly because we were not yet comfortable ourselves with the restrictions.\u00a0 However, as we have gotten\u00a0comfortable talking about celiac and\u00a0being gluten free,\u00a0\u00a0we have come to realize that\u00a0when given the opportunity most people actually enjoy finding “special” items.\u00a0\u00a0 My belief is everyone understands feeling left-out or different from some experience in their life and, especially when children are involved, feels good helping others feel included.<\/p>\n
We also think it helps that we are sure to show our appreciation and have our daughter do so as well when gluten free items are brought as well as have our own special stash of things in case they aren’t!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
