Hi there, and welcome.
We’re Karen and Jim Shirley. We have been eating gluten free since our daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease back in 2007.
We hope this question and answer format below will help you get to know us a little bit better. By the way, we would love to hear from you. We try to answer every email that comes to us. The best way to reach us is through our Contact form.
When Did We Go Gluten Free?
We have been eating gluten free since late 2007. While our kids are strictly gluten free, we have had times when we ate gluten. Since 2007, we’ve been gluten free 95 percent of the time. Neither of us feels good about eating gluten in front of the kids, so we just don’t do it.
Plus, now that we’ve avoided gluten so long, it doesn’t feel good to eat it.
Is There Any Gluten In Your Kitchen?
Nope. None. Even after we cleaned our kitchen out of gluten stuff years ago, a few things hung around that we thought we would give to family or friends one day. But that stuff was so hidden away that we forgot about it and then just ended up throwing it away after finding it on a spring cleaning.
What Is Your Favorite Gluten Free Meal?
Jim: Steak Frites. We’ve got an outstanding recipe for the herb butter for the steak. Saturday morning pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Oh, and Karen’s gluten free coffee cake.

Why This Blog?
The blog started out as more of a journal for us to note important information about eating gluten free. We wanted to share what we found, because when we were new to it all, a lot of the information didn’t make sense.
We’ve taken a year off from the blog and are now bringing it back with a renewed purpose. The primary change is that the information here will be better organized.
What Is Our Purpose?
Our purpose is to help families learn to eat and live gluten free.
We live in Colorado – a great place to be.
